Our History:

We have been a Louisville tradition since 1988. Our motto: “Friendly Folks Servin’ Famous Food” sums up our philosophy and commitment to deliver “WOW” service and “WOW” food to each and every Guest.

The finest "QUE" comes from Kentucky, as we all know. Our style of cooking was handed down from a 3rd generation master from Eastern Kentucky. We use only the finest quality Pork, Beef, and Chicken, which is slowly smoked using real hickory wood, then lightly topped with our signature bar-b-q sauces.

Many of our menu selections are signature, “one of a kind” trademarked items and are carefully guarded secrets! They include our award-winning BBQ, Ribs, Honeywings™, Onion Straws, Sweet Fried Corn, Bird-in-a-Nest™, and Homemade Buttermilk Pie! We keep our Guests happy with our amazing food and friendly staff.

Our most carefully guarded secret [locked in a bank vault] is the receipe for our original Bar-B-Q sauces. They were developed in Mark’s kitchen after many laborious hours and hundreds of lost taste buds. We have come up with a sauce using a secret blend of 13 spices mixed with other ingredients that make up our Original and Red Sauce. These sauces have become so popular and have even won first place in the prestigious American Royal International Sauce Contest and are sold in over 100 Krogers regionally. Papa Johns International™ uses our sauce in their "specialty" pizzas in over 3,000 locations worldwide. Most importantly, they keep our Guest happy and returning to sample more!

The concept and dream started in a historic building that had once been used since 1933 as “Hancock’s Feed Store” in Middletown, Kentucky. We did a lot of clean-up and added amenities like modern plumbing but managed to keep the look and character of that old feed store and even included the antique metal advertising signs on the wall!

Louisville Magazine’s readers poll have voted us “Best of Louisville” for both our BarBQ and Ribs for no less than 7 times. We have also been featured in Southern Living, Saveur Magazine, Nation’s Restaurant News, Restaurants and Institutions and newspapers from St. Louis, North Carolina and Michigan.

Mainly it has been the great people who have worked with us and dined with us over the years that have made Mark’s Feed Store so successful.
